When we started Cobalt, we had a clear mission: help SaaS companies build and ship integrations faster. The vision was rooted in infrastructure - solve the pain of connecting systems across the stack, and do it in a way that was developer-first, scalable, and secure.

But the product evolved faster than the name.

Today, we're no longer just an embedded iPaaS. We're building a platform that enables AI to interact with software systems the way a human would - planning, reasoning, and triggering actions across tools. What we’re building now looks very different from what we started with.

It was time for the name to catch up.

Why the name “Refold”?

The name Refold reflects how AI is reshaping enterprise software. It’s restructuring how work itself gets done.

The companies we work with aren’t just plugging in connectors anymore. They're deploying intelligent agents that navigate workflows across CRM, billing systems, compliance tools, internal dashboards, and even browser-based interfaces. And they're doing it with confidence, precision, and intent.

That’s a complete rethinking of how systems talk to each other - folding together tools, APIs, and business logic into something far more fluid.

The name Refold represents this shift: from rigid integrations to flexible AI-powered workflows. From static pipelines to dynamic execution layers. From glue code to real enterprise intelligence.

Why we moved away from “Cobalt”

We liked the name Cobalt. So did a lot of other companies.

That was the problem.

Despite its simplicity, we constantly ran into issues. Our domain, gocobalt.io, was often confused with unrelated businesses - mining companies, engineering firms, even other SaaS tools with similar names. Support emails bounced, searchability was poor, and over time, it became clear that we needed something more distinct, memorable, and future-proof.

We didn’t want to fix the symptom (e.g. with a better domain). We wanted to fix the root. And as our product evolved into an AI-native execution layer, it gave us the opportunity to rebrand with intention.

What’s staying the same

We’re still focused on building the best platform for enterprise-grade AI workflows. We’re still supporting SaaS teams that care deeply about performance, reliability, and scale. And we’re still developer-first, API-native, and obsessed with infra-level clarity.

What’s new is what Refold now represents - a broader, more powerful platform for AI-native execution.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be talking about new capabilities:

  • Workflow Agents that reason through multi-step tasks and execute them across systems.
  • A growing Action Library with prebuilt, enterprise-safe interactions.
  • And a completely reimagined developer experience for launching and managing AI-powered workflows at scale.

What’s next

This name change is foundational. It reflects the kind of company we’re becoming and the kind of problems we’re solving.

Refold is about making enterprise software more composable, more intelligent, and more autonomous. We’re just getting started.
